Exhibition: Ljubljana City Museum from October 22, 2025 to February 22, 2026 (opening at 7:00 PM)

With selected photo documents and objects, the exhibition will bring to life the time when the whole world came to life in Ljubljana with cartoons, commercials and film.

Miki Muster was an academic sculptor, yet he created only a few sculptures. From his teenage years onward, he dreamed of making animated films. To achieve this, he became an illustrator with an unstoppable passion, mastering all the secrets of animation as a self-taught artist, so that his cartoon characters could come to life on Slovenian television (we only need to recall the lively trio of rabbits from the television trailer Cikcak)...

This year marks 100 years since the birth of the pioneer of Slovenian comics and animated film Miki Muster, who was born in Murska Sobota. On this occasion, the Pomurski Muzej Murska Sobota on Slovenska ulica opened an exhibition about his life and work. The author of the exhibition is Metka Fujs, who prepared the exhibition and was also on display on the 70th anniversary of Zvitorepec, one of Muster’s most recognizable comic book heroes. A short conversation was first held at the Belmur Hotel, where the mayor of the Murska Sobota Municipal Council addressed the attendees, and the director of the Pomurski Muzej Branko Kerman presented Muster’s life. Muster’s son Miklavž was also at the event, who shared some memories of his father with those present and thanked the municipality for honor...

The Bank of Slovenia is expected to issue a commemorative coin in November 2025 to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Miki Muster. The following will be issued:

• 990,000 coins in the regular minting technique with a nominal value of 2 euros

• 3,000 coins in the proof minting technique with a nominal value of 2 euros

This year is particularly important for us, as it marks the anniversary of the birth of the great master of the ninth art – Miki Muster. Slovenian comics were long overshadowed by Croatian and Serbian comics, which Slovenian readers could only read in Croatian or Serbian, i.e. in their periodicals, because the first “Slovenian” weekly with comics, Majin strip, was only published in the early 1960s, and even then it was published in Serbian. Therefore, we can say that Zvitorepec is indeed the first such Slovenian publication to appear after the economic reform of 1965. This year, we will host a series of events related to comics and, in particular, to our legendary author Miki Muster.

All those who like to draw and are fans of Miki Muster are invited from 18 to 20 April 2025 to attend the CELJE COMIC FEST, a large Fantasy Art event and creative gathering at the Celje Youth Centre. The event will also feature Muster’s drawing competition and a discussion on the 100th anniversary of Miki Muster’s birth, with guests including Iztok Sitar, Uroš Sajko, Ciril Gale and Denis Polanc.

On February 7, 2025, the Slovenian Youth Theatre will premiere the play The Adventures of Trickster, Hardie and Hungerly: The Three Musketeers, directed by Matjaž Pograjc.

The Post of Slovenia has revealed the motif of the commemorative postage stamp Miki Muster – Centenary of his Birth, which will be issued on January 31, 2025, in the series Notable Personalities. On that day, it will be possible to obtain a first day of issue postmark and purchase FDC at the post office.

On this year’s stamp, dated 2025, the place was given to the unforgettable Joe Flayskin. Joe Flayskin is a little frog with a sword before whom the whole world trembles. Let me remind you that the other three heroes, Trickster, Hardie and Hungerly, were depicted on stamps as early as 1998.
